2022 Aqua X Grand Prix

Following almost three seasons of COVID disruption we are finally heading back to the picturesque location of Kinloch, Lake Taupo for Jet Ski Racing New Zealand’s end of season finals this year.
A highlight on the annual jet ski racing calendar, this exciting two day event provides racers to blow the cobwebs out in the Aqua-X Grand Prix. This will be two days of high energy competition, raced under UIM rules with pole skis and runabout classes included.
Aqua-X Grand Prix
The Aqua-X Grand Prix is short course event, run around a series of buoys. This event will be raced over the two days as a Championship Event (with points tallied at the end of Day 2.) Four races are planned for Saturday and three further rounds on Sunday. Registrations will define the classes that will be run, according to UIM rules.
Please note: Only riders who are financial members of the club are eligible to receive final placings in this event. Follow the link to apply for membership.
Water-Cross
This 30 minute mid-distance Enduro Race will be run over both days, with two races on Saturday and one on Sunday. There will be two classes, forced induction and naturally aspirated, run together. Entry is open to runabout skis only.
Race Schedule
The event will take place on Saturday 23th and Sunday 24th April, Anzac Weekend starting with registration at 8.30am Saturday morning and finishing with prize-giving late Sunday afternoon.
Saturday, 24 April
8:00am – Registration and scrutineering
9:00am – Rider’s Brief and look laps
10.30am – Racing Starts
4.00pm (approx) – Racing concludes
Sunday, 25 April (ANZAC DAY)
Racing is scheduled to start later on Sunday morning, in recognition of Anzac Day.
10.00am – Registration and Rider’s Brief
10.30am – Racing Starts.
3.30pm – Racing concludes
4.30pm – Prize-giving – detailed to be advised.
Classes
Depending on registrations it is probable that runabout classes will include GP1, GP2, GP3 & GP4. Pole ski classes will include two-stroke lights, four-stroke lights & GP1.
Novice Riders
This season we have welcomed a number of new riders into our newly established ‘Rookie’ class. If you haven’t made it to an event yet, t’s not too late to join for 2022! Rookies will be fully supported by experienced riders from beginning to end. Prior to competing all Rookies should familiarise themselves with our race rules and race information.
Accommodation
Kinloch village is just 20 minutes drive from Taupo township and is well known as a peaceful holiday destination. A number of websites offer quality accommodation within the village. Go to: holiday houses, bachcare, Bookabach, or Airbnb for options. Kinloch is a great place to bring family and friends, bikes and boats. Come and enjoy a long weekend away.
